OGHA 2021/22 Rep Tryouts
Submitted By Michelle Whyte on Sunday, August 22, 2021
The Orangeville Girls Hockey Association will be holding Rep tryouts in September.

We want to make sure everyone is aware of some pertinent information on some of the policies and rules regarding tryouts.
REGISTRATION WITH ASSOCIATION:  All players MUST be registered on RAMP with the organization they played with last season.  This is to ensure players are insured before they step on the ice.  If you played with the Orangeville Tigers last season, you will need to register on our website AND on RAMP.  No permission to skate (PTS) form is required.  If you played with another organization last year you MUST bring a PTS form with you to tryouts and hand it in at the registration table.
REGISTRATION FOR TRYOUTS:  The schedule for tryouts will be available on our website in the next few days and is also included at the bottom of this email. Players MUST register for tryouts online prior to tryouts.

COST FOR TRYOUTS:  $15.00 per tryout to a maximum of $60.00 (exclude U11; see below).

U11 TRYOUTS:  Players in U11 wishing to tryout for Rep MUST attend a minimum of 4 Prep for Rep skates prior to tryouts. This is a mandatory requirement from Hockey Canada and OWHA.  We are offering 6 Prep for Rep skates for U11.  Players wishing to tryout can pay $75.00 and attend 4 - 6 Prep for Rep skates and 3 tryouts.

TRYOUTS IN OTHER CENTRE:  Any player wishing to participate in tryouts in other centres MUST request a PTS form from our Director of Rep, Paul Mammoliti.  Separate PTS forms are required for each centre where a player wants to participate in tryouts.  In order to receive a PTS or Release from the OGHA, a player must be in good standing with the OGHA.  All fees owing to their team and the OGHA must be paid in full.  Please allow a minimum of 48 hours to have your PTS form processed.
Permission to Skate forms are now valid until October 1, 2021
As per OWHA rules:  No player may participate in any OWHA sanctioned activity with a team other than her own team unless she has a properly executed Permission to Skate form or a release from her current association.  Failure to comply will result in a minimum two (2) game suspension for the offending player and/or head coach.

SECOND TIER TEAMS IN DIVISION:  Some parents have asked about the tryout procedure for divisions that may have a second rep team.  Based on our constitution we would like to note the following:
Part III, Regulations and Rules, Rep Team Selection, Sentence 6:

When participating in rep tryouts, the player must try out for the highest level in the division first or seek an exemption from the Rep Director.

The reasons for having this in our constitution are as follows:
1.  We strive to have the strongest and most qualified players at the highest level team.
2.  Decisions for a second team are based on the number of players attending the tryouts for the highest level.  This allows the association to know if there is a demand for a second team.
3.  An exemption may be offered by the Association following a conversation with the parents of the players requesting the exemption.
TRYING OUT FOR A TEAM IN A HIGHER AGE DIVISION:  If a player wishes to try out for a team in a higher age division, they must speak to the Director of Rep, Paul Mammoliti, prior to the first tryout and be granted permission to do so.  A player trying out for a team of a higher age division must be ranked in the top five players of that higher-age team in order to be signed to the team.
